Overview

Fox Thermal Flow Meters Keep Your Processes Optimized with Non-Stop Performance.

Fox Thermal is the leader in thermal gas mass flow meter innovation by creating the first digital sensor technology – the DDC-Sensor™. This direct digitally controlled sensor interfaces directly with the meter’s microprocessor for more control, precision, and programmability. A revolutionary advancement to thermal mass flow technology, Fox’s digital sensor provides the platform for groundbreaking flow meter features like in-situ calibration validation and gas composition programming. Our Engineering team designs solutions to make downtime a thing of the past. Our robust flow meter products meet today’s gas flow measurement challenges for industrial processes, oil & gas, wastewater, and biogas applications worldwide.

Technology

Accurate
Gas Flow Measurement

All thermal Mass Flow Meters from Fox utilize the thermal sensing principle, a proven, accurate direct mass flow measurement technology. This technology performs at high levels of accuracy with a wide turndown.

Thermal mass technology uses a constant temperature differential sensing principle (constant ΔT) to measure the mass flow rate of air and gases. The flow meter is constructed with electronics connected to an integral or remote probe. The probe features two Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs) in contact with the flow of gas. The reference RTD measures the gas temperature. The heated RTD is kept consistently hotter than the reference, and the instrument’s electronics measure the cooling effect of gas flow on the heated element. The electrical power required to maintain a constant temperature differential is directly proportional to the mass flow rate of the process gas.

Industries We Serve

Industrial Process

Industrial gas flow meters must be rugged, packed with features and options, and ready to measure out of the box. Plant operators often require uninterrupted process gas flow to keep production running. Shutting down production is costly and inefficient. Industrial gas mass flow meters by Fox Thermal are easy to install, cost-effective, and designed to make downtime a thing of the past. They offer a no-moving-parts design with a wide measurement range (up to 1,000:1, 100:1 typical). Typical applications are for natural gas sub-metering, compressed air optimization, hydrogen gas production, and combustion process optimization.

Energy Generation

Meeting the energy needs for data centers and AI is causing growth in the energy generation sector – and at lightning speeds. Current power providers are optimizing their systems to operate at peak performance, while investors are building new sources of power. Flow meters are used to optimize combustion in current systems by monitoring flow to tune for the optimal air-to-fuel ratio. Flow meters are also used to monitor flow in hydrogen production for newer energy generation projects. These applications require accurate flow measurement with a wide turndown. Thermal mass flow meters from Fox Thermal offer cost-effective solutions with quick lead times to meet this growing need.

Oil & Gas

Thermal mass flow meters from Fox Thermal are a long-trusted solution for the oil and gas sector. Fox Thermal flow meters solve the problems of monitoring methane, natural gas, flared gas, and vented gas in oil and gas applications such as oil refineries, well drilling operations, chemical process plants, gas distribution infrastructure, and more. Flow meters offer accuracy across changing gas compositions, high accuracy at low velocity flow, and compliance for reporting emissions.

Green Industry

Modern industry is becoming more focused on minimizing environmental impact through sustainable practices and products. Thermal mass flow meters can be used to help track and reduce resource consumption and minimize waste. Industrial equipment optimization is a common application for flow meters. By monitoring the flow of air and gas in processes, operators can reach their efficiency goals and promote their company’s commitment to initiatives like ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).

Wastewater / Biogas

Gas flow meters are essential tools for managing aerobic and anaerobic processes at wastewater treatment plants. Thermal mass type flow meters from Fox Thermal are the ideal solution for measuring gas flow rates, reducing costs, and meeting emissions requirements for greenhouse gases. Biogas is produced when organic matter, like agricultural or municipal waste, decomposes in the absence of oxygen. This may take place in a landfill site or an anaerobic digester, producing biogas containing about 70% methane and 30% carbon dioxide.

Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas and the primary constituent of natural gas, an important energy source. Mass flow meters from Fox Thermal can provide accurate and reliable measurements of biogas for significant energy, economic, and environmental benefits.
