Pulsar Measurement – Delivering the Measure of Possibility

Pulsar Measurement’s award-winning products are favoured worldwide due to their reliability, accuracy and easy to use approach. Pulsar Measurement’s product range has been designed to provide flow and level monitoring solutions, from single point of measurement installations through to complex multi-point applications.

Overview

Pulsar Measurement is a Worldwide Leader in
Flow and Level Monitoring

Since 1986 Pulsar Measurement has designed, developed, and manufactured flow and level monitoring instruments including ultrasonic level transmitters, clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters, and open channel flow meters with the recent introduction of radar level and volume measurement for liquids and solids.  Employing over 160 colleagues with 3 manufacturing facilities and a global sales team, Pulsar Measurement continues to develop forward-facing technologies with the customer at the heart of all we do.

Technology

Ultrasonic
& Radar:
The Best of Both Technologies

With sensors utilising piezoelectric crystals that transform ultrasound to voltage or vice-versa, Pulsar Measurement has developed ultrasonic instrumentation that can measure flow and level.  Utilising differential transit-time and Doppler measurement methods, our technology is applied for fluid velocity measurement in pipes and channels with the ability to handle fluids in varying conditions.  Our ultrasonic level sensors operate on echo transit time principles for measurement.

Our ultrasonic sensors can be combined with our controllers to provide a digital display, as well as numerous outputs and control capabilities, or transmitters for direct connection to control systems or remote telemetry units (RTUs).

Pulsar Measurement’s sludge interface level measurement utilise ultrasonic technology to measure sludge levels in wastewater applications and industrial clarifiers. Our sensors feature a mechanical wiper which periodically cleans the sensor face to reduce cleaning and maintenance.

With sensors that can generate and receive radio waves, the Doppler method is applied to non-invasively measure the velocity of liquids in partially-filled pipes and channels.  This provides a measure of flow from multiplying the channel area with the liquid velocity.

For level measurement, the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) method is applied to non-invasively measure the level of liquids or solids in tanks, pipes, or channels.

Our radar sensors can be combined with controllers to provide a digital display as well as numerous outputs and control capabilities, or transmitters for direct connection to control systems or remote telemetry units (RTUs).

Featured with our ultrasonic and radar level measurement products, DATEM is a signal processing algorithm developed by Pulsar Measurement that minimizes the effects of interference in challenging environments.  DATEM continuously adapts to report the measurement of the true fluid level by ignoring the background interference. With DATEM, the effective beam angle of our sensors is enhanced, allowing for unprecedented performance in challenging conditions such as sewage wet wells, tanks or wells with abrasive walls.

Industries We Serve

Water & Wastewater

The monitoring of water or wastewater is important to ensure efficiencies in the processes and that industry standards are met. Additionally, it helps prevent the flooding of sewer network systems into people’s homes and businesses.

Pulsar Measurement provides solutions into effluent flow, sludge monitoring, lift/pump stations and tank level monitoring, for example.  Our range of products are certified in line with industry standards and ensures industry compliance.

Environmental

Measuring river levels helps assess a river’s health as well as its potential for flooding, while monitoring groundwater in several industries helps assess run off for contaminates.  These are two applications where our broad product range is being applied.  Pulsar Measurement provides products that make environmental water monitoring simple and easy.  Our low power options for remote locations deliver the same level of accuracy and reliability as those closest to urban towns.

Industrial

The industrial market includes many sectors, all of which have fluids and solids that need monitoring and measuring.  From process control to monitoring, measuring is essential to process efficiency, compliance monitoring, help meet health and safety protocols, and predictive maintenance.  Pulsar Measurement has a range of non-contacting products that can help with process measurement while reducing downtime for installation and maintenance.

Irrigation

The accurate flow of water and other liquids in the irrigation industry is fundamental to the process. Too little water and the plants will die; likewise, too much water and the plants are at risk of being drowned. Having accurate measurement allows the operators to monitor the flow of water and ensure it remains at its optimum level.  Pulsar Measurement offers a wide range of products for open channel flow measurement, lined canals and tank level measurement.

Oil & Gas

Pulsar Measurement offers level and flow instrumentation that can be adapted to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry. Transducers come in various options from PVDF to foam face, giving extra protection against harsh substances. Remote and automatic monitoring of levels saves time and money, our non-contacting pipe flow monitoring reduces installation time and reduces maintenance, improving process efficiency.
